ISRAEL - An Israeli attack on Tehran’s nuclear installations would probably ignite an all-out Middle Eastern war – a frightening scenario, but also frightening is the prospect of living in the shadow of a nuclear Iran. The bottom line is simple and clear: Either Israel, to the best of its ability, using missiles and bombs, destroys Iran’s nuclear installations, or it will have to live with a nuclear Iran in the years to come. Unfortunately, those are the only options and there are no others. Time is pressing. The moment Israel must decide between launching a preventive strike and coming to terms with a nuclear Iran and living in its shadow is very near
ITALY - People vaccinated against COVID-19 are highly unlikely to die of the disease unless very old and already badly ill before getting it, a study in Italy showed on Wednesday. The study by the national Health Institute (ISS), contained in a regular ISS report on COVID-19 deaths, shows the average age of people who died despite being vaccinated was 85. On average they had five underlying illnesses. The average age of death among those not vaccinated was 78, with four pre-existing conditions. Cases of heart problems, dementia and cancer were all found to be higher in the sample of deaths among those vaccinated.
USA - Joe Biden keeps telling us that he wants a strong economy, but he keeps doing things that he knows will hurt the economy. How can we explain this? One possibility is that he is simply extremely incompetent. Perhaps he really does want to improve the economy, but all of the economic decisions that he makes turn out badly because he lacks competence. Considering how much he has declined physically and mentally, and considering the lack of quality in the team that he has surrounded himself with, that is not a completely implausible theory. But others would suggest that nobody could do this much damage to the US economy unless it was being done on purpose. Biden just keeps making more moves that have people scratching their heads, because it almost seems as if he doesn’t even care about the political consequences of his actions.
USA - If you have a bad feeling about 2022, you are not alone. As we approach the new year, it seems like things are going wrong all around us. We are facing the most epic supply chain crisis in our history, inflation is out of control, vaccine mandates are killing careers and forcing people out of jobs all over the country, and America is the most deeply divided that I have ever seen in my entire lifetime. Meanwhile, another wave of the pandemic appears to be building, our hospitals are already packed with non-COVID patients, global hunger is on the rise, and a major war could erupt in the Middle East at literally any moment. Unfortunately, I am entirely convinced that many of the problems that we are currently dealing with will escalate to an entirely new level in 2022.
UK - The politicians, billionaires and film stars attending the climate carnival on the Clyde say they are ‘saving the planet’ but all they are really doing is ensuring they get to strut around lecturing the rest of us again next year. An early and obvious criticism of the conference was the apparent indifference of the great and good to acting as role models for the rest of us. Instead, they flew in on private jets (Air Force One really being the mother of all private jets), with huge entourages in lengthy motorcades. It really was one set of rules for the rich and powerful and another set being hatched for the rest of us. For politicians who normally spend their waking hours stressing about appearances, the ‘optics’ were astonishingly bad.
UK - There are more delegates at the Cop26 climate conference with links to the fossil fuel industry than from any single country, according to an analysis by eco-campaigners. World leaders have gathered in Glasgow to set out the action they are taking and commit to end funding for fossil fuels abroad, cut methane emissions, curb deforestation, and phase out coal.
UK - Spawned by the unsustainable menus fed to climate-conscious billionaires at COP26, the latest trend in foodborne guilt – examining one’s ‘carbon foodprint’ – will add to the emotional minefield that comes with ordering dinner. Eaters can’t be allowed to get away with just counting calories anymore, according to The Telegraph, which claims that Brits are clamoring for carbon-counts to be added to restaurant menus.
EUROPE - "Few share France's willingness to splurge on defense, or its expeditionary military culture. (Germany, especially, does not.) Nobody agrees what 'strategic autonomy' actually means." — The Economist.
ITALY - Italy Changes defintiion of COVID death from ‘with COVID’ to ‘by COVID’. The Italian Higher Institute of Health has drastically reduced the country’s official COVID death toll number by over 97 per cent after changing the definition of a fatality to someone who died from COVID rather than with COVID. Italian newspaper Il Tempo reports that the Institute has revised downward the number of people who have died from COVID rather than with COVID from 130,000 to under 4,000.
USA - Goodwill Industries is purportedly pressuring its stores to adopt critical race theory-style training as part of the organization’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiative. According to former Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania (SWPA) Retail Operations Manager Timothy O’Malley, his region first began discussions on how the company was going to be “different” following the 2020 presidential election.
UK - White men need not apply. That's the not-so-subtle message from a leading investment company striving to increase its quota of female and ethnic minority staff. Jess McNichols, head of Inclusion, Diversity and Corporate Citizenship at State Street — which employs 39,400 people worldwide, including at Canary Wharf, in London — said: 'This is now front and central, it's on every executive's scorecard.' They can take that as a threat, not an aspiration.
USA - Critical Race Theory being taught in American schools has angered many parents. But for one mother, it has led to her becoming a central figure in a nationwide battle that could permanently alter the structure of US education. Stay-at-home Rhode Island mum Nicole Solas, 38, has become the face of a rebellion against America’s influential National School Boards Association (NSBA), which plays a key role in serving approximately 51 million American children. Solas had never heard of the group until five months ago, when she asked if her daughter’s state kindergarten taught Critical Race Theory.
USA - Satanic or satire? US school preaches 'cannibalism,' yet concerned parents are the ones branded as ‘domestic terrorists’ . As further evidence that the US school system has lost the plot, students in Georgia were instructed to consider ‘eating babies’ as a way of solving world hunger. How much more depraved does it have to get before people wake up? In the ongoing series entitled ‘US Schools Go Insane,’ one institution apparently thought that by slapping a ‘satire’ sticker on the most profane idea imaginable, the contraband would go unnoticed. On behalf of satire, I’m happy to report it didn't work.
USA - The horrific rape of a 15-year-old in the girl’s bathroom in a Virginia school by a ‘gender-fluid’ male pupil exposes the dangers of our bowing down to the trans lobby. Putin’s right: We’re allowing monstrous things to happen. I was not surprised that I didn’t have to wait long for validation from the US of Vladimir Putin’s criticism last week, in which he claimed Western society has devolved to “things that are simply monstrous… like when children are taught from an early age that a boy can easily become a girl and vice versa. In fact, they are indoctrinating them into the alleged choices that are supposedly available to everyone – removing parents from the equation and forcing the child to make decisions that can ruin their lives….” I realize, of course, these concerns for overwrought children make me a domestic terrorist, which is why I have to look to open media that still allows freedom of speech like RT.com. I cannot imagine my anachronistic, hate-branded form of gender objectivity being allowed on CNN where gender subjectivity is required. One must turn, instead, to Russia, where leaders still have the courage to stand up for free speech about gender realism.
USA - President Biden and Democrats’ Build Back Better Act includes a provision that specifically prohibits religious schools from using infrastructure grants to improve their facilities. The bill, which House Democrats hope to vote on this week, includes a provision for infrastructure grants to improve child care safety. Specifically to help child care providers "acquire, construct, renovate or improve" their facilities. However, included further down in the bill’s text is a prohibition against religious organizations like churches and synagogues that also have schools or child care services. They are prohibited from using funds to improve their facilities. Recipients "may not use the funds for modernization, renovation or repair of facilities that are primarily used for sectarian instruction or religious worship," the bill states. Representative Mike Kelly, Republican for Pennsylvania, offered an amendment to strike the Religious Freedom Amendment provision, but it failed during the Ways and Means Committee’s markup in September.
