UK - Andy Burnham is leading in the polls, a nihilistic far-Left is rising on both sides of the Atlantic, the West is facing geopolitical decline and fiscal immiseration, artificial intelligence (AI) is upending our lives, immigration is being weaponised by our enemies, and what are Right-wing parties’ response to this global emergency, this existential crisis for the societies and values they hold so dear? They are bickering, splintering, turning inwards, treating politics as a branch of show business, unleashing circular firing squads, plunging into demented purity spirals, and embracing demagogic podcasters and charlatans who measure their worth according to the volumes of clickbait they spew out. I despair. We need great leaders who rise to the occasion, men and women of Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher’s stature, and we have ended up with politicians who squabble like children. It is hard to be anything other than deeply pessimistic about the West’s future.
Yet another Bible prophecy hits the headlines. Just as predicted over 2500 years ago:
"O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths."
Or as a more modern translation makes clearer:
"Childish leaders oppress my people, and women rule over them. O my people, your leaders mislead you; they send you down the wrong road." (Isaiah 3:12)
