Chinese anti-lockdown protesters earn the praise that eluded their Western peers

CHINA - Establishment politicians and media outlets have praised the ‘freedom-loving’ Chinese, after demonizing those who spoke out against their own lockdowns. “It’s really important that citizens be able to make themselves heard, that they are protesting on a specific issue that touches on so many others – of government control of authoritarian states – we, of course, stand with those protesters,” Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said this week in response to the ongoing protests in China against the government’s zero-Covid policy.

Switzerland Mulling Bans on Electric Car Use

SWITZERLAND - As a result of the ongoing energy crisis throughout Europe, Switzerland is considering a ban on the use of electric cars for non-essential purposes. Owners of Teslas, Volts, and other electric cars in Switzerland may soon find themselves taking the bus, with the country reportedly considering a partial ban on using EVs as part of a host of measures aimed at saving electricity. Like a whole host of other European nations, Switzerland’s energy situation is being significantly stressed as a result of Russia largely pulling out of Europe’s energy market, with the country seeming particularly concerned about its supply of electricity.

Foolish Decision to Close Britain’s Biggest Gas Storage Site Reversed

UK - Rough, a gigantic British gas storage facility in the North Sea which the government allowed to go to the wall in 2017, is being gradually brought back to life as the energy crisis bites. North Sea gas storage site Rough had accounted for an astonishing 70 per cent of Britain’s relatively unimpressive gas storage capacity at the time of its closure — a strategic resilience issue in itself, given the ‘all eggs in one basket’ situation it left the country in — with operator Centrica estimating the loss of the “cushion” energy supply it provided ended up costing customers around £88 each, or £2.4 billion in total, last winter.

Roubini Warns "The Mother Of All Economic Crises Looms"

USA - The world economy is lurching toward an unprecedented confluence of economic, financial, and debt crises, following the explosion of deficits, borrowing, and leverage in recent decades. In the private sector, the mountain of debt includes that of households (such as mortgages, credit cards, auto loans, student loans, personal loans), businesses and corporations (bank loans, bond debt, and private debt), and the financial sector (liabilities of bank and nonbank institutions). In the public sector, it includes central, provincial, and local government bonds and other formal liabilities, as well as implicit debts such as unfunded liabilities from pay-as-you-go pension schemes and health-care systems – all of which will continue to grow as societies age.

A ruinous and strict green agenda

UK - As with many of the crises facing Britain, the government would have the public believe that Russia and Vladimir Putin should be blamed for the energy crunch, but Britain’s especially parlous situation — despite the fact it imports little Russian gas directly — can be attributed in large part to years of mismanagement by Conservative Party-led governments.

The Developing World May Fall Into Energy Poverty Due To Europe's Increasing Demand

EUROPE - Due to the decline in Russian imports, the European Union is currently experiencing an energy crisis. The developing world may fall into energy poverty due to Europe’s increasing demand. According to a Credit Suisse energy analyst quoted by Bloomberg on Tuesday, the EU energy crisis would undoubtedly result in energy poverty in developing nations. “Europe is sucking gas away from other countries whatever the cost,” Saul Kavonic told the media.

Netherlands seeks to close 3,000 farms

HOLLAND - The Dutch government announced plans to buy and close up to 3,000 farms near areas deemed environmentally sensitive to comply with EU climate rules, the Telegraph reported. The Netherlands stated that it would first offer one-time voluntary deals to large nitrogen-emitting farms in hopes of reducing pollution. However, if not enough farmers accept that initial offer, the Dutch government announced that it would move forward with "compulsory purchases."

Every store-bought 3oz bag of popcorn can ship with one rat poop pellet, and a standard 1.5oz bar of chocolate is allowed up to 30 insect parts.

Appearing on NBC’s “Meet the Press” Sunday, Comer told host Chuck Todd that the Republican-led committee would investigate the hundreds of billions of dollars in COVID-related funding while accusing Democrats of misusing it to focus on left-wing social issues. “We believe that there have been hundreds of billions, if not trillions of dollars wasted over the past three years – that spans two administrations - in the name of COVID,” Comer continued.
