In the 2003 documentary 'The Fog of War', the former United States Secretary of Defense Robert S McNamara admitted that the August 4 Gulf of Tonkin attack never happened. In 1995, McNamara met with former Vietnam People’s Army General Võ Nguyên Giáp to ask what happened on August 4, 1964 in the second Gulf of Tonkin Incident. “Absolutely nothing”, Giáp replied. Giáp claimed that the attack had been imaginary.

Now, retired military officials — who pay attention to history — are even warning about more staged events to pull us into war. “I think the president needs to watch carefully for the potential for something like the Gulf of Tonkin incident,” Colonel Macgregor said. “Many of your viewers may not remember that it never happened and we could very well be treated to something like that in the Gulf. We should watch for that, and this is an example of President Trump’s comments on fake news, he should not be sabotaged by fake news.”

The conditions, such as solitary confinement, in which many US prisoners are kept are strictly illegal under international law, but that means nothing to “freedom and democracy America.” Solitary confinement, especially confinement inside tiny cells, is like being buried alive. Already distressed Floridians gagged on the noxious odor, and more than a dozen people reportedly went to local emergency rooms after coming into contact with the contaminated water. The study took a look at 25 fruits and veggies, including the most popular ones in Canadian diets; specifically, potatoes, tomatoes, bananas, and apples. Each of them turned out to have lower nutritional value than their historical counterparts. For the analysis, seven key nutrients were examined, and a decrease in many of the nutrients was seen in the produce that was analyzed. The potato, for instance, lost 100 percent of its vitamin A content, 57 percent of its vitamin C and iron, and 28 percent of its calcium. Potatoes also lost 50 percent of their riboflavin content, and 18 percent of their thiamine content, with only niacin levels increasing.

In fact, nearly 80 percent of the food that was examined showed a decrease in calcium and iron, 75 percent showed a decrease in vitamin A, 50 percent showed a loss of vitamin C and riboflavin, 33 percent showed a decrease in thiamine, and 12 percent displayed a drop in niacin.

According to the report, the decrease in nutritional value can be attributed to modern farming methods, as well as transportation and cross-breeding practices. In addition, Phil Warman, an Agronomist and Agricultural Sciences Professor at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College noted in the report that the “emphasis is on appearance, storability, and transportability,” thereby compromising the nutritional value of fruits and vegetables.

Parents should be given official advice warning them not to give their children smartphones before they reach secondary school, a leading psychiatrist has warned. Dr Jon Goldin claimed parents are being forced into buying the devices for their young children so they aren’t left out at school. The vice chairman of the Royal College of Psychologists said government guidance on when to give smartphones to children would help parents stand their ground.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, he said: ‘Children often say to their parents: “All my friends are [getting phones] and you are not allowing me to do that.” I don’t think we can legislate [to restrict it to under 11s] but this guidance would back parents up when they were having conversations with their 10-year-olds.’ Dr Goldin also called on the government to recommend that children under 11 should be restricted to two hours a day on social media.

He said social media makes children anxious and depressed, and time spent online can leave them vulnerable to cyberbullying. The psychiatrist called on social media giants such as Facebook and Twitter to make it more difficult for young people to lie about their age and create accounts before they turn 13. Dr Goldin’s comments come ahead of the publication of a report by the Royal College of Psychiatrists, which assesses the damage caused by children spending too much time online. It is believed almost four in ten children aged between eight and 11 own a smartphone.

What’s the motivation behind it? If Democrats gain a majority in the US House of Representatives, they promise to impeach President Trump — an act that would likely set off a nationwide civil war. By staging events that allow them to blame Trump supporters for violence or deaths, they hope to sway public opinion against conservatives and “steal” the mid-term elections.

Frei.Wild (pronounced FRY-vilt) has become one of the most contentious and successful bands in Germany, where its lyrics about loving one’s homeland have resonated with people who want to challenge the postwar taboo against public expressions of national pride. The band sings in German, and its music is a punk-inflected variant of “deutschrock,” a form of German rock music. But a South Tyrolean identity allows the group to voice nationalist sentiments in German, for a largely German audience, while partly avoiding the backlash that a German band would encounter for making similar statements.

Mr Kindler said that Frei.Wild fit into the strategy outlined by the “New Right,” a loose movement of political intellectuals in Germany that believes right-wingers need to establish a “cultural hegemony” in order to bring their politics into the mainstream. The band, he said, “is bringing a racist, xenophobic, nationalist, ethnic thinking into the heads of young people through their music.”

Thorsten Hindrichs, a musicologist at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, said in a telephone interview that Frei.Wild had become a rallying point for right-wing populists in a German music landscape that has overwhelmingly positioned itself as “liberal and anti-fascist.” “Music articulates the interior psychological state of a society,” he said, adding, “Frei.Wild articulates a repertoire of opinions that is no longer a rarity in Germany.”

Some attendees saw the band’s appeal in more ideological terms. Bernhard Pahleng, 47, a customer service representative from the Black Forest region of southern Germany, said he welcomed Frei.Wild’s politics, which he said appealed to people who were “sick of being ashamed of being German.” He said the band was part of a patriotic German countermovement to the refugee crisis, which he believed might have been caused by a conspiracy of outsiders — including Jews “who hold the strings” in the United States — to keep Germany from being economically successful.

Cooper spoke to the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee on Wednesday to convince them he is the right man to assist Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. At one point, Senator Jeanne Shaheen (Democrat for New Hampshire) asked about the Russian-Turkish deal and US move to bar supply of F-35 fighter jets in retaliation.

“A sale of something like the S-400 would be catastrophic for us,” Cooper told Shaheen. “We do not want a NATO ally to be dependent upon the servicing and supply of equipment that is provided by Russia. That is for me an operational standpoint. The strategic standpoint is we don’t want a NATO ally to have a weapon system supplied by Russia.” He conceded that if the long-standing cooperation between Turkey and the US were to be broken apart, it would be catastrophic too.
