USA - Federal law could not be more clear that President Donald Trump can declare a national emergency at the US-Mexican border, and that such a declaration gives him access to all the funding he needs to build the wall. Congressional Democrats have rejected all compromise legislation that would have given them half a loaf, ironically putting the president in a situation where the only way he can keep his most-often-repeated campaign promise is to declare a border emergency, where he does not need to compromise with Democrats on anything. The National Emergencies Act of 1976 gives every president unconditional authority to declare an emergency on any subject, including a border emergency. In the end, President Trump should therefore prevail in any legal challenge, the wall will be built, and the border secured.
USA - House Speaker Pelosi sits in the front row for a reason. She is in charge of divvying up more than just America’s trillion dollar NATO funds. The Speaker also controls how the federal budget is spent. That too is over a trillion dollars… ($1,000,000,000,000). She is also in charge of the US Capitol Police. They report to Nancy Pelosi. NATO’s budget is more than the budgets of 27 of its 28 member countries. The US is the only NATO member with a budget over $800 million. The US has been paying from 66 to 82.5 per cent of the NATO budget since 2011. Both slabs of pork, the US and NATO’s defense budget, are courtesy of US taxpayers.
USA - President Donald Trump responded Saturday to news of his confidant Roger Stone’s Friday indictment with a list of Democrats and justice officials he wants to see in trouble for alleged lying. “If Roger Stone was indicted for lying to Congress, what about the lying done by [James] Comey, [John] Brennan, [James] Clapper, Lisa Page [and] lover, [James] Baker and soooo many others? What about Hillary [Clinton] to FBI and her 33,000 deleted Emails? What about Lisa [and Peter Strzok’s] deleted texts [and Anthony Weiner’s] laptop? Much more!” Trump wrote Saturday.
USA - If you add together all of the money owned by the poorest 3.8 billion people living on this planet, it would roughly equal the wealth controlled by the 26 wealthiest men in the world. Oxfam has just issued a brand new report on global inequality, and what they have discovered is making headlines all over the globe. The rich just keep getting richer, and meanwhile the slice of the pie owned by the poor just keeps getting smaller. Today, almost half the world lives on less than $5.50 a day, and approximately 795 million people “do not have enough food”. And even in a “wealthy country” like the United States, the gap between the rich and the poor is the largest that it has been since the 1920s, and more than half a million Americans are homeless right now. This growing inequality is a ticking time bomb, and at some point it is going to explode.

EUROPE - While the British are tying themselves into knots of Gordian proportions over their leaving of Europe, the leaders of Germany and France have been meeting, now laying the stage for their political domination of the European Union (EU). Indeed, it’s these two nations that began this whole European project nearly six decades ago, and it is they who will shape the course for the remaining 25 EU members — and for any other nations that will join the club — in the decades to come.
GERMANY - Until recently, Germany has been the seemingly unbreakable workhorse that has pulled the European economy back from the brink and kept it ticking along through a myriad of internal and external pressures, as well as political crises, over the last decade. As the undeniable leader of the bloc, the country has spearheaded and supported rescue plans for the Eurozone’s weaker links, as well as a number of controversial policies that work towards further centralization within the EU. However, with clouds now gathering over Germany’s economic outlook, concerns over potential knock-on effects on the entire monetary union are on the rise.

Except Hansard records show that there is almost no mention of ‘Palestine’, before the 1920s (when it was created as the legal vessel to enable the Jewish people to return to their historical homeland).
ISRAEL - Jerusalem is home to around 400,000 Muslims, but is it a sacred city according to Islam? This is a question the majority of Muslims within the political and academic world try to avoid, simply because it opens a rather uncomfortable discussion. In fact, a Muslim asking such a question could face serious consequences; such as society doubting in his/her faith.
ITALY - Italy’s deputy prime minister and interior minister, Matteo Salvini, is one step away from facing trial after a surprise court ruling determined that he be tried for kidnapping. In August, prosecutors in Agrigento, Sicily, placed Salvini, who is leader of the far-right party the League, under investigation for the alleged kidnapping and detention of 177 migrants whom he prevented from disembarking the Italian coastguard ship Ubaldo Diciotti. “I could face up to 15 years of jail because I have stopped the disembarking of illegals in Italy,” Salvini wrote on Facebook in response. “I’m speechless. Am I afraid? Not at all. I’m not going to give up on this. Now the decision will pass through the Senate. We’ll see how it goes …”
USA - The western world overall is becoming a very unhappy place. Male suicide is spiking, but let's not forget about how feminism is also hurting women. While men are more likely to successfully kill themselves, women are more likely to make the attempt. Even in the wake of the women's rights movement, women's happiness has continued to drop.
EUROPE - Earlier this week, France and Germany signed an update to the Treaty of Aachen. The gist of this document is that it brings the two powerhouses of the European Union closer together in terms of economics, politics, and defense matters. Among other things, this is the genesis of the 'real European army' which French President Emmanuel Macron previously called for and which German Chancellor Angela Merkel is in full accord with.
UNITED NATIONS - The INF treaty, Venezuela and climate change: These are just some of the areas Germany wants to tackle in its two-year stint on the international body.
