ISRAEL - 87% of survey respondents want PA to hold elections for first time since 2005; only 11% say they trust Abbas, 6% Hamas chief Haniyeh. Abbas’s 14-year rule has been marked by corruption and deepening Palestinian division. The Palestinian Authority hasn’t held elections since 2006 due to a bitter split between the West Bank’s governing Fatah movement and the Gaza-ruling Hamas terror group, which violently ejected PA forces from the Strip in 2007. The two sides have engaged in a number of failed reconciliation efforts, the most recent of which was an Egyptian-brokered agreement signed in October 2017.
USA - Online shopping behemoths like Amazon are completely disrupting brick-and-mortar retail. As personal shopping data is harvested and analyzed, it is weaponized and turned against you to manipulate further buying decisions.
ISRAEL - Don't be fooled by misleading stories about Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's disappointing showing in Tuesday's election in Israel. Even if the centrist Blue and White alliance of former military chief Benny Gantz were to eke out a very narrow victory over Netanyahu's right-wing Likud Party, sending Bibi into retirement, the story of this election is not at all about the retreat of the right. On the contrary, the most far-reaching consequence of the 2019 Israeli election may well be that it verified, beyond any reasonable doubt, that there is functionally no left left in Israel. It has become a country with a center, a right, and a far right, but no electorally viable left to speak of. No matter what happens in the coming days and weeks, the right in Israel holds most of the cards, the center is its only opposition and viable alternative, and the left is well and truly dead.
USA - We aren’t supposed to have a major blizzard in April. Less than a month after a “bomb cyclone” caused apocalyptic flooding in the central part of the country, another “bomb cyclone” is hitting the exact same area. One meteorologist has called it “a life-threatening storm”, and at this moment over four million people are under blizzard warnings. South Dakota, Minnesota, Nebraska and Kansas are going to get absolutely hammered before the storm finally moves east on Friday. The authorities are warning that this new “bomb cyclone” will cause additional flooding in the region, but at this point we do not know how bad that flooding will be. In case you are wondering, yes, this is incredibly unusual. Unfortunately, it appears that the general population does not understand the gravity of the situation that we are facing yet.
UK - Britain is now heading for a humiliating Halloween Brexit after EU leaders ignored Theresa May and gave her until October 31 to pass her deal at a crunch summit that ended at 2am today. Mrs May had begged EU leaders to postpone Britain's departure until June 30 while she talks to Jeremy Corbyn - but this was rejected, leaving the PM in a precarious position having repeatedly said she could not 'countenance' Britain staying in the EU after that date.
GERMANY - Many have been lamenting the dark path that Europe and the transatlantic relationship are currently on, but there hasn’t been much discussion of where that path leads. European weakness and division, a strategic “decoupling” from the United States, the fraying of the European Union, “after Europe,” “the end of Europe” — these are the grim scenarios, but there is a comforting vagueness to them. They suggest failed dreams, not nightmares. Yet the failure of the European project, if it occurs, could be a nightmare, and not only for Europe. It will, among other things, bring back what used to be known as “the German question.”
USA - I know that the headline sounds outrageous, but it is actually true. According to a brand new report that was just released, Americans had to borrow 88 billion dollars to cover their medical bills last year. That is a truly astounding number, and it shows just how dramatically our current health care system has failed. And even though the vast majority of Americans are covered by “health insurance”, millions of us are deathly afraid to go to the hospital because of what it might cost.
AUSTRALIA - Freedom of speech has taken another major hit Down Under, as government authorities in Australia recently decreed that any medical professional who dares to express skepticism about the safety or effectiveness of vaccines will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law, including a potential prison sentence of up to 10 years.
USA - Donald Trump has threatened to impose US tariffs on $11 billion (£8.4 billion) of goods from the EU, raising the stakes in the transatlantic trade dispute between the world’s two largest economic superpowers. The Trump administration announced the additional levies on EU goods – including roquefort and stilton cheese, wine and aircraft parts – as a response to subsidies for Airbus, the European aerospace and defence group, which it said were harmful to the US. The latest threat by the White House to slap higher import tariffs on a major trading partner comes after a long-running dispute between the US and the EU over their state subsidy support for Airbus and Boeing, the world’s two biggest civil aerospace firms. The tit-for-tat battle stretches back almost 15 years…
USA - There are many journalists and scientists today who are writing about the fraudulent nature of global warming dogma, citing verified scientific studies. Nevertheless, the warmist hysteria continues to grow, exhibiting symptoms of cult-like behavior. The far-left ThinkProgress reports that scientists have finally proven that the theory of man-made Global Warming is a total hoax. Of course, no one will admit it, but that is exactly what has happened. A new scientific study has revealed the following:
USA - Amazon is listening to customers through Alexa devices - with employees recording thousands of clips including a woman singing in the shower and a sex assault, it emerged last night. Full-time workers and contractors at the online retail giant reportedly sift through as many as 1,000 recordings per shift - and even share "amusing" clips between themselves.
UK - Britain has been warned by the EU it MUST hold European Parliamentary elections next month in order to earn an Article 50 extension - or face being unceremoniously booted out of the bloc immediately, without a deal. Meanwhile a Tory MP begged Emmanuel Macron and Angela Merkel to "put us out our misery" by blocking another Article 50 extension to allow the UK to leave the EU without a deal on Friday.
ISRAEL - Right-wing bloc’s success gives PM edge in forming new government despite Likud tying in seats with Gantz’s Blue and White; New Right and Zehut fail to cross threshold. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was poised to clinch a clear electoral victory Wednesday morning, with some 97 percent of votes showing his Likud party tied with Blue and White, but the right-wing bloc with a clear lead and Netanyahu possessing a clear path to forming a governing coalition.
GERMANY - Germany plans on putting its own issues on the agenda of the United Nations Security Council during its month-long presidency, Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said on Monday. Germany, currently a non-permanent Security Council member, is taking over the chair in April as part of a "dual presidency" with permanent member France. Besides helping the UN body fulfill its role in crisis and conflict management, Germany wants to use its position to "strengthen long-term conflict prevention," Maas told reporters. Monday night's debate in the UN Security Council focused on humanitarian workers who are being targeted or hindered in conflict zones.
GERMANY - Foreign Minister Heiko Maas has said the council must include more permanent members to reflect today's world order. He also said Germany will not "shun its responsibility" for global conflict resolution. Maas stressed that Germany's global "responsibility is growing" and that his country is prepared to take on a greater role in tackling global conflicts. "We won't be able to shun big decisions anymore," he said, especially regarding conflicts in the Middle East, including those in Syria and Yemen.
