HUNGARY - Western sanctions on Russia over Ukraine have failed to end the conflict, but have instead wreaked havoc on Europe’s economy and driven up inflation, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has said. Posting on his Facebook page on Sunday, Orban offered a scathing criticism of EU sanctions, claiming the bloc is struggling to tackle inflation due to the restrictions Brussels has introduced in the energy sector. “The name of the disease is… inflation, and the virus is called the Brussels sanctions,” he said.
USA - RT’s Murad Gazdiev delves into how, from the bands of Ukrainian nationalists fighting Russian forces to Islamic extremists in Iraq and Syria, the West has used terror to advance its political goals around the globe. During World War II, Adolf Hitler’s forces trained and equipped Ukrainian nationalists who would later massacre hundreds of thousands of Poles, Russians and Jews.
TURKEY - At least three people died and hundreds more were injured as new earthquakes shook Turkey and Syria on Monday evening, that come as the region responds to the devastation wrought by quakes two weeks ago that left tens of thousands of people dead. At least three people died after the latest earthquakes in the Turkish province of Hatay, while 294 people were reported injured, including 18 in serious condition, according to Health Minister Fahrettin Koca.
UK - Vegetable rationing could last for 'weeks', it was warned today, after Morrisons joined Asda to became the second major supermarket to limit sales of certain items. Perishables like tomatoes, potatoes, cucumber and broccoli have been restricted to just two or three per customer in a host of stores up and down the country. The crisis has developed in recent weeks due to soaring energy costs which have forced British farmers to switch off greenhouses as they desperately try to make ends meet - leaving a dearth of home-grown produce.
UK - The UK’s food banks are being overwhelmed by an "unprecedented" increase in demand amid double-digit inflation and the cost-of-living crisis, new research has found. According to the survey published on Sunday by the Independent Food Aid Network (IFAN), an institution uniting more than 550 independent food banks, 89% of organizations have seen a rise in the number of people seeking support in December and January as compared to the same period one year ago.
USA - A Union Pacific train carrying coal suffered a catastrophic derailment on the eastern edge of Gothenburg, Nebraska on Tuesday morning, in the fourth such accident to befall the small town in just 10 months. Emergency and railroad crews were sent to the scene for cleanup after 31 cars carrying coal tumbled into a twisted wreck. “It seems to happen all the time,” local resident Jesse Ambler told the Daily Mail. “The rail company keeps laying people off and building longer and longer trains, but with less people to maintain the tracks,” he explained, describing the disaster-plagued stretch of tracks as “one of the busiest railways in America.”
ISRAEL - The idea of an undivided capital is precious, but terrorism is too high a price to pay. Unlike Palestinians living in the West Bank, the 360,000 or so Palestinians living in East Jerusalem are considered permanent residents of Israel, carry blue Israeli ID cards, receive Israeli social benefits, can travel freely within Israel, and have all the rights of Israeli citizens — except the right to vote in national elections.
USA - Democrats want to bury and regulate CO2, a clear, innocuous, non-pollutant gas that allows plants to grow and the world to be fed. They want to eliminate clean-burning, efficient, affordable natural gas plants that keep people comfortable with air-conditioning and heating. They claim that coal power plants with scrubbers emissions travel across states. That is nuts! The emissions clearly dissipate soon after they go in the atmosphere. I have lived within one mile of a coal-fired power plant for 43 years, and the air is very clean. Thank goodness for natural resources that have greatly improved our quality and length of life for over 150 years.
USA - In his State of the Union address earlier this month, US President Joe Biden referenced Europe several times, and the underlying message was always the same: Captain America has swooped in to save his Western allies from a horrible fate. “Our nation is working for more freedom, more dignity, and more peace, not just in Europe, but everywhere,” Biden said. Woah, slow your roll there, big guy. The world can only handle so much “freedom” after recent debacles in Afghanistan, Syria, Libya, and elsewhere. Europe was actually a pretty chill place as far as conflicts went, right up until Washington decided that it wanted to set up a flophouse for itself in Ukraine to better keep tabs on Russia, then managing to convince its European NATO allies to come help it move in and provide some weapons as housewarming gifts.
INDIA - India’s Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and other officials have blasted billionaire George Soros for suggesting that the scandal around the Adani Group, linked to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, might bring a "democratic revival" for the country. Soros said during the Munich Security Conference on Thursday that fraud allegations against the multinational conglomerate, headed by the PM’s long-time associate Gautam Adani, would "significantly weaken Modi’s stranglehold on India’s federal government... I may be naive, but I expect a democratic revival in India."
NORTH KOREA - North Korea fired two short-range ballistic missiles on Monday morning, just two days after resuming missile testing. South Korea detected the two launches from a western coastal town, just north of Pyongyang, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement. The chiefs said South Korea has increased surveillance and is coordinating with the US to prepare for any necessary response.
USA - Joe Biden has made an unannounced trip to Ukraine to meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the eve of the anniversary of the beginning of the conflict there, yet Biden still has no plans to visit East Palestine in Ohio where disaster continues to unfold.
USA - According to the news outlet, there’s nothing to worry about because The Satanic Temple isn’t really about Satan. It’s just an advocacy group. They really think we’re stupid. At least they hope we are. This corporate media outlet and the Temple itself want us to believe they picked Satan to be their mascot because he was the best representation of “rejecting tyranny.” The statement itself is insane because the tyranny they’re referring to is the sovereignty of God.
USA - Newly-released drone footage shows East Palestine waterways being treated in the aftermath of a devastating railroad derailment that released toxic chemicals into the streams and soil. It is unclear from the footage what the waterways are being treated with to mitigate the effects of vinyl chloride, a known carcinogen, as cleanup efforts continue in the eastern Ohio town. Alan Shaw, the CEO of rail company Norfolk Southern, said on Sunday he is pleased with the progress his firm is making in cleaning up the area.
ISRAEL - On the Temple Mount, the issue is clear, or should be. One side – that of Israel — wishes to allow religious freedom for both Jews and Muslims on the Temple Mount, the holiest site in Judaism and the third holiest site for Muslims. The Muslims, however, wish to continue to prevent Jewish visitors from praying on the Mount, and to keep strict limits on visiting hours by Jews to four hours a day, and only on five days a week, while there are no limits on when Muslims may visit.
