In the UK, Generation Z had the biggest proportion of atheists at 31 per cent - but the figures have been rising steadily across age groups. Despite the general drift away from religion, belief in life after death has remained fairly solid - at 46 per cent in the most recent survey. And Brits rank highly for tolerance of other faiths, with 82 per cent saying they are happy to trust people from a different religion. The analysis comes from the respected World Values Survey (WVS), which has ben running since 1981.

In turn, there’s no guarantee that cascading effects will not alter the nutrition of the meat or dairy that comes from that cow. Maybe it’ll be fine, maybe it won’t. The problem is that, oftentimes with genetically engineered foods, safety testing is minimal or absent.

Fake people, now endowed with superhuman cunning, might persuade us to vote for measures and invest in concerns that fortify their standing, and susceptible individuals or factions could overthrow governments or terrorize populations.

Few scientists want to halt the advancement of artificial intelligence. The technology promises to transform too many fields, including science, medicine, and education. But, at the same time, many AI researchers are issuing dire warnings about its rise. “It’s almost like you’re deliberately inviting aliens from outer space to land on your planet, having no idea what they’re going to do when they get here, except that they’re going to take over the world,” Stuart Russell, a computer scientist at the University of California, Berkeley, and the author of “Human Compatible,” told me.

Disturbingly, some researchers frame the AI revolution as both unavoidable and capable of wrecking the world. Warnings are proliferating, but AI’s march continues. How much can be done to avert the most extreme scenarios? If the singularity is possible, can we prevent it?

Yet Labour has been stuck in the shadows ever since the Conservatives took power in 2010. Then the UK was hit by multiple blows in the span of just a few months later that year: the downfall of Boris Johnson following a series of scandals that engulfed his government on July 7; the death of the country’s longest-reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, on September 8; the crashing of the British pound two weeks later, after that Prime Minister Liz Truss unveiled a package of unfunded tax cuts for the super rich; and, finally, the collapse of yet another Conservative government on October 20. The UK’s latest leader, Rishi Sunak, emerged as an unelected replacement to Truss days later, becoming the fifth Prime Minister in just over six years.

The next election could yet be a big win for Labour, but Starmer says he isn’t being complacent. He carries around with him a list of the battleground constituencies Labour needs to win power — a physical reminder of what stands between him and Downing Street. While much can change between now and the election — the economy, the polls, or even which Tory is Prime Minister — that list remains constant. “We went from ‘You can’t win’ to ‘You can’t lose’ in the blink of an eye,” Starmer says, snapping his fingers. “If we go from where we landed in 2019 into government, that’ll be a historic achievement — and we need to be humble enough to know that requires us to earn every vote.”

For wearable goods, there’s a “Pride Baby Bien Proud Body Suit” for your newborn. Target even had to make sure its Spanish-speaking consumers were included in its trans indoctrination; the garment’s rainbow lettering reads “¡Bien Proud!” I’m not convinced a young toddler has any sense of what the phrase “¡Bien Proud!” even references or would pick that out of his own volition. Rather, this feels more like Target wants parents to use their children as walking (or even crawling) billboards to affirm activists’ identities and ideologies.

Sure, Target may pride itself on labeling its products with an “LGBTQ+ Owned” icon to discern which brands are founded or owned by LGBT-identified people, but something feels sickeningly off-kilter about corporations profiting off the backs of vulnerable teens. These children and teens deserve productive therapeutic treatment and room to safely explore, not a marketing ploy that exploits their insecurities.

Oxitec applied in April 2022 for a research authorization permit to release genetically engineered mosquitoes in Tulare County.
