Pharmacies nationwide report outages in wake of cyberattacks
USA - Change Healthcare reported the issues due to a cyberattack which is causing havoc for patients attempting to fill prescriptions. Pharmacies all over the country are experiencing delays in prescription orders due to a cyberattack on one of the biggest healthcare technology companies in the nation, Change Healthcare. Change Healthcare first noticed the "cyber security issue" affecting its networks on Wednesday morning on the East Coast. It comes amid a major cell outage which has affected millions of customers across the country, crippling 911 services and leaving customers without reception on the biggest networks. That outage may have been caused by "human error", according to one expert, but a "solar flare" has also been cited as a possible explanation for the cell problems.
The failure of the UK's £17 million Trident missile launch
UK - A Trident missile test failure has 'undermined' the nuclear deterrent, the Defence Secretary was warned last night. In an incident branded 'worse than an embarrassment', a £17 million missile misfired and crashed into the sea next to the submarine that launched it. But Grant Shapps insisted Britian's nuclear deterrent remains 'effective' and 'dependable'. He said the Government retains 'absolute confidence' in the nuclear weapons system despite the second failed launch in a row following a misfire in 2016.
Last month, during a test off the coast of Florida with Mr Shapps and First Sea Lord Admiral Sir Ben Key on board, the HMS Vanguard crew performed a doomsday drill. A Trident 2 missile was propelled into the air, but its first stage boosters did not ignite and the 58-ton missile 'just went plop' into the sea next to the vessel and sank, The Sun revealed yesterday.
Former British Army commander Colonel Richard Kemp told the Mail: 'It's worse than an embarrassment – it's a form of undermining our own deterrent. The British nuclear deterrent is an absolute cornerstone of our defences, and if it is seen so publicly to fail then that undercuts the value of the deterrence overall.'
Trident missiles are not frequently tested, as each launch can cost up to £17 million. A previous test fire, in 2016, also ended in failure after a Trident launched from HMS Vengeance veered off course and self-destructed. It is understood the issue related to testing equipment attached to the missile, which prevented the firing of the rocket system. Officials insisted that if the missile was fired in conflict, the problem would not have occurred as the testing equipment would not be attached.
German economy is in 'troubled waters'
GERMANY - The German economy is in "troubled waters," according to country's economy minister. Robert Habeck said the German government's forecast for economic growth for 2024 had been revised down from 1.3% to 0.2%. This means that Europe's largest economy has effectively stalled - although it has avoided entering a full-blown recession. Mr Habeck previously called Germany's economic situation "dramatically bad".
Today, he said that Germany had been hit by a "very specific situation" after Putin's full invasion of Ukraine because its energy-intensive industries were dependent on Russian gas. Germany's reliance on exports made it particularly vulnerable to changes in global trade patterns, he said, and the broader structural problem for the German economy was its lack of workers.
Without migrant workers Germany's economy would collapse, Mr Habeck said. Energy costs soared after Russia's full invasion of Ukraine two years ago. This sparked inflation, meaning that households are feeling squeezed. The country may in fact have already slid into recession, according to a warning by Germany's central bank, the Bundesbank.
GERMANY Getting ready for war
GERMANY - The Bundeswehr is propelling a militarisation of civil society with its “Operationsplan Deutschland”. Military planners want to integrate civilian resources for combating Russia. The still confidential “Operationsplan Deutschland” (Operations Plan Germany) announced by the Bundeswehr sets out not only military measures but also comprehensive steps towards a militarisation of German society as a whole. To discuss the details of the plan, conceived under the motto “Germany. Together. Defend”, Lieutenant General André Bodemann - Commander of the Bundeswehr Homeland Defence Command - invited “around 300” experts to Berlin at the end of January for an “intensified exchange of ideas between military and civilian actors”.
The event brought together representatives from politics, police forces, technical relief organisations, fire services, academia, the media and business (particularly the energy and logistics sectors) as well as allied countries. The deployment of civilians and reservists is intended to free up military potential for operations in the east. Saxony’s Interior Minister Armin Schuster noted that Germany had already “learnt a lot” in terms of civil-military cooperation to combat “forest fires, pandemics and floods”. But “specifically on the question of leadership”, there was “no experience with war”. And a representative of the Federal Interior Ministry said Germany needed to be “less uptight” when “talking about war”.
The Bundeswehr say that civil-military cooperation is a “core element of the operations plan”. The military wants to see much closer “networking between the security agencies, disaster prevention organisations and industrial companies”. The German armed forces want to further intensify their “good working relationships” with the so-called blue-light organisations (police, fire brigade, technical relief organisation and rescue services) – relationships that have already been established through the Bundeswehr’s domestic missions conducted in “civilian crisis situations”. The “operation of Hub Germany”, which is at the heart of the transatlantic deployment against Russia (german-foreign-policy.com reported), “requires not only the Bundeswehr but also civilian partners”. Alongside interlocking cooperation with blue-light organisations, the Bundeswehr is aiming at having “similarly good working relationships” with industry.
North Korean missile contained US and European components
NORTH KOREA - A North Korean ballistic missile fired last month by the Russian military in Ukraine contained hundreds of components that trace back to companies in the US and Europe, according to a new report. The findings mark the first public identification of North Korea’s reliance on foreign technology for its missile program and underscore the persistent problem facing the Biden administration as it tries to keep cheap, Western-made microelectronics intended for civilian use from winding up in weapons used by North Korea, Iran and Russia.
The UK-based investigative organization Conflict Armament Research, or CAR, directly examined 290 components from remnants of a North Korean ballistic missile recovered in January from Kharkiv, Ukraine, and found that 75% of the components were designed and sold by companies incorporated in the United States, according to the report shared first with CNN.
Last year, as CNN previously reported, CAR determined that 82% of components inside Iranian-made attack drones fired by Russia inside Ukraine were made by US companies. The White House confirmed last month that Russia has been firing North Korean missiles at Ukrainian cities. North Korea has also likely provided Russia with “millions of artillery rounds” over the last year, according to a report published last week by the Pentagon’s inspector general.
Intelligence officials in Washington are increasingly concerned about the growing ties between North Korea and Russia, CNN previously reported, and the long-term implications of what appears to be a new level of strategic partnership between the two nations.
Was America Just Attacked?
USA - We have now been put on notice that our communication infrastructure is extremely vulnerable. What would we do if we suddenly couldn’t use the Internet or our phones any longer? For a lot of people, such a scenario would be unthinkable. In fact, it felt like the “world is ending” for many AT&T customers on Thursday. The disruption to AT&T’s network only lasted for a few hours, but it created quite a frenzy. If we are going to see this much panic for an outage that happens for just a few hours, what would our society look like if Internet and phone communication was down for days, weeks or even months?
Once the outage began, federal authorities moved very rapidly to determine whether it was a cyberattack or not… I have a feeling that they will assure the general public that it was not a cyberattack no matter what they discover. In situations such as these, keeping everyone calm is often deemed more important than telling them the truth. We really are living in unprecedented times.
In all of human history, there has never been a “cyberwar”, and so we don’t know exactly what one would look like. But it is clear that our communication infrastructure is extremely vulnerable, and what we just witnessed should definitely be a wake up call for all of us.
Ship ablaze after missile attack in Gulf of Aden
MIDDLE EAST - A vessel caught fire after being hit by two missiles southeast of the Yemeni port of Aden on Thursday, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) has said. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. It comes as Houthi militants have escalated attacks on vessels in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. The militants who control large parts of Yemen have been targeting merchant ships in response to Israel’s military operation in Gaza, which started in October. The United States and the UK have formed an international coalition to protect navigation in the area.
Thursday’s incident took place 70 nautical miles from Aden, and the coalition forces are responding, according to the UKMTO, which is a monitoring service operated by the British Navy. An investigation is underway, it added. There has been no official information so far on the type of the vessel that was struck, damage, or casualties.
According to the Associated Press, ship-tracking data helped identify the vessel as a Palau-flagged cargo ship named Islander that had been coming from Thailand bound for Egypt.
Latest Craze
USA - Do you know what a Zynbabwe is? Or an upper-decky lip pillow? OK, here’s an easier one — how about just Zyn? If you are scratching your head, don’t feel bad: Almost no adult I have spoken to has had any idea either. This is despite the fact that the nicotine pouch Zyn is a jewel in the crown of a multibillion-dollar tobacco company. Haven’t heard of nicotine pouches to begin with? Neither had I. But when I ask my 19-year-old neighbor Ian if he knows what a Zynbabwe is, I get a shocked reply: “You know about Zyns?”
You may have seen the tins that contain 15 little white rectangles that look like the desiccant packs labeled “Do Not Eat.” Zyns are filled with nicotine and are meant to be placed under your lip like tobacco dip. No spitting is required, so nicotine pouches are even less visible than vaping. Zyns come in two strengths in the United States, three and six milligrams. A single six-milligram pouch is a dose so high that first-time users on TikTok have said it caused them to vomit or pass out.
And while Zyns are presented as a healthier, smoke-free alternative to cigarettes, they are still addictive, according to Robert Jackler, a professor emeritus at the Stanford University School of Medicine who has studied nicotine industry marketing. And dentists are already reporting seeing gum injuries in patients who use pouches.
Does America’s freedom and liberty last only as long as its morality?
USA - In addition to establishing a representative republic with all sorts of checks and balances to protect against the biblically defined evil nature of Man, our Founding Fathers repeatedly expressed the belief that Christian morality was absolutely essential for both the preservation of liberty and the stability of law. They emphasized this crucial point in their writings over and over again: Consider, for example, Samuel Adams who served as Governor of Massachusetts, was a signer of the Declaration of Independence, and was the organizer of the Boston Tea Party. He wrote: “While the people are virtuous they cannot be subdued; but when they lose their virtue they will be ready to surrender their liberties to the first external or internal invader. Religion and good morals are the only solid foundations of public liberty and happiness.”
The first governor of Virginia was Patrick Henry. He also served as member of the Continental Congress. He explained the significance of religion in these words: “The great pillars of all government and of social life are virtue, morality, and religion. This is the armor… and this alone, that renders us invincible.”
The most significant of all our Founding Fathers was, of course, George Washington. He served as Commander in Chief of the Continental Army, overseer of the Constitutional Convention, and first President of the United States. He wrote these words: “Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports… in vain would that man claim the tribute of patriotism who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness, these firmest props of the duties of men and citizens.”
The Western World’s Dying Culture
USA - Many look at Generation Z and wonder how things could have gone so horribly wrong, but it isn’t a mystery at all. The truth is that the young adults of today are the product of the western world’s dying culture. We have often been warned that the liberal elite will fundamentally transform our culture, but in reality they have already fundamentally transformed it. They dominate education, they dominate the media, they dominate the entertainment industry, they dominate the corporate world, they dominate at all levels of government and they even dominate most of our major religious institutions. They have imposed a culture on us that is completely foreign to the culture that was once dominant in the western world, and the consequences have been nothing short of dramatic.
It is easy to blame Generation Z for their behavior. But I believe that more of the blame belongs to the system that produced them. Our system of education is supposed to be preparing our young people to face the real world, but it is failing badly. We live in a culture that simply does not value academic achievement, and that is especially true when it comes to mathematics. But things are completely different in Asian countries such as Japan, China and South Korea. Given enough time, they would run circles around us. Many would argue that they already are.
Our system of education is doing a horrible job of teaching students to read, write, speak and work with numbers. But it is doing a great job of sexualizing our young people. In the name of “sex education”, some of the most horrible things that you can imagine are being taught in our classrooms. New “values” that would have made previous generations of Americans vomit are being relentlessly promoted, and materials that are not appropriate to read in front of our lawmakers are being made available to our children.
Sexualization of Children Has Replaced Education
USA - In New Hampshire a state representative read to the House sexually explicit passages from school materials for middle school kids. Clearly these materials are part of the sexual grooming of kids for pedophiles. Democrats objected to the reading but were voted down. Bussing was the method of racially integrating schools. The result was to destroy Parent-Teacher Associations (PTA). Consequently, parents lost contact with teachers and influence over what is taught. Now the schools are in the hands of those busy at work sexualizing children. This is the main achievement of school integration along with the complete collapse in educational standards. School integration not only is a total failure. It did massive harm.
American Children Are so Bad at Math...
USA - The most recent results of the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) highlight a concerning trend for US students in the field of math. American children are so bad at math it’s actually becoming a national security threat. Obviously concerned by the findings, the Defense Department has called for a new initiative to provide support for education in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). As The Hechinger Report reported, China, the United States’ biggest rival, has eight times the number of college graduates in these disciplines compared to the United States, while Russia, another major foe, has four times the number of engineers. This alarming disparity, noted the Hechinger Report piece, has prompted concerns beyond the realm of education. The United States’ mathematical failings pose a direct threat to its technological supremacy.
Other commentators have gone a step further. Falling math scores, they suggest, should be viewed as a national security threat. They’re right. Math serves as the foundation for virtually all scientific and industrial research and development. Essentially, mathematics can be seen as the underlying operating system that makes the world go round.
US Cattle Inventory to Lowest Levels Recorded in 73 years
USA - We have been monitoring the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and its intention to begin regulations focused on methane. This is out of concern that the organization is poised to join the globalist “War on Meat.” And while rules will start with the “evil” fossil-fuel industry, agriculture is the major emitter of methane. Because of the bovine digestive system, cattle ranches and dairy farms produce significant amounts of this gas. And while methane is a more potent greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide, the American plains were once filled with buffalo herds… and the planet remained quite habitable. However, while those rules have yet to be implemented, ranchers must make hard decisions based on current realities. The cattle inventory is currently down to the lowest levels recorded in 73 years.
Saudi Foreign Minister: Palestinian State ‘Already Exists’
SAUDI ARABIA - Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan said in an interview published Tuesday that the Palestinian Authority, which controls the West Bank, was a “capable and credible” entity that should be considered a contender to govern both the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, united in a hypothetical state of “Palestine.”
Prince Faisal also said that, from the perspective of his Islamist regime, the Palestinian state “already exists” and the only obstacles to the rest of the world accepting its sovereignty are other countries recognizing it, an agreement on where its borders would be, and who would comprise its government.
The Saudi government has loudly demanded the establishment of a Palestinian state since the atrocities of October 7, in which the rulers of Gaza, the terrorist organization Hamas, invaded Israel, killing an estimated 1,200 people and engaging in widespread acts of gang rape, infanticide, mutilation, and desecration of corpses, among other crimes. Hamas is a genocidal organization whose objective is the destruction of the Jewish state and its replacement with a jihadist “Palestine.”
US weather forecast: 'Siege' of low-pressure storm systems
USA - A rain-loaded ‘atmospheric river’ stalled over the west coast of America threatens further ‘dangerous’ flooding, landslides and heavy snow. California faces a torrential deluge through the week as the state battles historic downpours which have left thousands without power and killed three people. A ‘siege’ of low-pressure storm systems – known as a ‘pineapple express’ – will sweep the west coast prompting fresh warnings from national weather officials. California has this winter been the target for a series of atmospheric rivers – bands of moisture in the atmosphere carrying up to a tonne of rain. Fresh flood watches are this week in force across California, predominantly in San Francisco, Fresno, and Los Angeles.
