We're repeating the mistakes that pitched the world into disaster last century

UK - The way to avoid repeating the mistakes of the past is to study history, or so they say. But then how did we get here? The hideous events of the 20th century – ideological tyranny, economic stupidity and the manipulation of populist rage ending in mass murder – have been more minutely chronicled, catalogued, interpreted and re-assessed than any political phenomena in human experience.

New Nationality Law 'A Jewish state with a democratic regime'

ISRAEL - The new Nationality Law will define Israel as a 'Jewish State with a democratic regime' rather than as a Jewish and democratic, due to pressure from the haredi parties. The law will also include an order to preserve the state's religious heritage and the holy places according to their traditions.

Feminism Is Leaving A Wake Of Unhappy, Unmarried, And Childless Women In Its Path

USA - Feminists claim to promote the advancement of women and gender equality, largely via the promotion of so-called sexual liberation, but their movement is leaving a wake of unhappy, unmarried, and childless women in its path, a real problem feminists seemingly refuse to entirely address.

Was the G-20 Summit Really Worth It?

GERMANY - The Hamburg summit is over. Overshadowed by the violence on the streets outside, Angela Merkel and the rest of the G-20 leaders managed to find mini-compromises on major issues. But the question remains: Was it worth it?

G20: Trump hails talks as 'success' despite divisions

USA - President Donald Trump has declared the G20 summit in Germany a "wonderful success", despite his country's isolated position on climate change. In a joint statement, the leaders of 18 nations and the EU recognised the US decision to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement. However, they also said other G20 members remained committed to the "irreversible" accord. Deadlock over the issue had held up the last day of talks in Hamburg. A final agreement was eventually reached and the joint summit statement was officially released on Saturday. The statement also said the US would seek "to work closely with other countries to help them access and use fossil fuels more cleanly and efficiently".

G-20 Outcome Shows Trump's America Is Going Its Own Way

GERMANY - World leaders forged a fragile compromise at a summit in Germany that failed to conceal the reality that Donald Trump’s America is increasingly going its own way. The Group of 20 nations meeting in Hamburg agreed to fight protectionism while tacitly recognizing Trump’s concerns about excess steel capacity and what he says are unfair trade practices. On climate change, the US was again isolated, with all 19 other members agreeing that the Paris accord on cutting harmful emissions was “irreversible.”

Trump refuses to wear G20 pin — opts for American flag

USA - Donald Trump is making America exceptional once again. It’s coming in small, yet proud ways, as evidenced at the G20 summit in Hamburg, Germany. As leaders were gathering for a photo op, most were sporting a G20 pin on their lapel. Not Trump. He was wearing an American flag.

Donald Trump 'secures a ceasefire in Syria'

USA - The US, Russia and Jordan reached a ceasefire and “de-escalation” agreement for southwestern Syria on Friday, following crunch talks at the G20 summit. The ceasefire is due to start at noon Damascus time on Sunday.

Wildfires rage as California sizzles

USA - The first major wildfires after the end of California's five-year drought raged across the state Saturday, as it was gripped by a record-breaking heatwave. Some 3,000 firefighters were battling several blazes with triple-digit temperatures recorded in valleys and inland areas. A wildfire in the Sierra Nevada foothills north of Sacramento was only two percent contained by early evening and had destroyed 10 homes, scorching 2,000 acres (800 hectares) of forest and sparking evacuations and road closures. California Governor Jerry Brown in April declared the official end of the state's drought that lasted more than five years. "This drought emergency is over, but the next drought could be around the corner," Brown said in a statement.

Moscow promotes joint Russia-China plan

UNITED NATIONS - Moscow has dismissed US-led calls at the UN Security Council to introduce new sanctions over Pyongyang’s latest ballistic missile test, calling instead, for more “creative” diplomacy, citing the joint proposal by the Russian and Chinese leaders Tuesday. Describing the North Korean ballistic missile launch on Tuesday as “dangerous, reckless and irresponsible,” the American Ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley urged the UN Security Council to implement new measures against the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).

Japan, South Korea, US Agree to Take Lead at G20 Summit on North Korea

USA - In telephone calls ahead of the G20 summit, President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe agreed to partner with South Korean president Moon Jae-in and take the lead in the effort to tackle the threat posed by North Korea’s nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles build-up.

In North Korea, ‘Surgical Strike’ Could Spin Into ‘Worst Kind of Fighting’

NORTH KOREA - The stand-off over North Korea’s nuclear program has long been shaped by the view that the United States has no viable military option to destroy it. Any attempt to do so, many say, would provoke a brutal counter-attack against South Korea too bloody and damaging to risk.

Kim Jong-un gets what he wants

NORTH KOREA - Kim Jong-un gets what he wants. Joint Russian-Chinese statement on Korean conflict recognises North Korea's 'justified concerns', opposes military action, and effectively rules out across-the-board sanctions.

Recession Warning

UK - Stock markets across the world are on the edge of a devastating crash which could trigger a new economic meltdown, according to a key technical indicator. In a flashing red warning, share valuations have soared to their second-highest ever level, suggesting that many stock investments are over-bought and could be in bubble territory.

Kalashnikov develops fully automated neural network-based combat module

RUSSIA - The Russian Kalashnikov arms manufacturer has developed a fully automated combat module based on artificial neural networks, which allows it to identify targets, learn and make decisions on its own. “In the nearest future we plan to unveil a whole line of neural network based products. A fully automated combat module based on that technology is to be unveiled during the ARMY-2017 forum,” communications director of Kalashnikov Concern Sofiya Ivanova told TASS. Neural network technologies allow the module to identify targets and make decisions on its own, according to Ivanova. It remains unclear whether the module will actually open fire on its own or wait for a human to authorize it.
