It is far more than just an economic project: It’s a cultural project, a leap of civilization for which the whole world envies us. Yet all of this is in danger. Nationalism is rearing its ugly head again throughout Europe. Solidarity is yielding to selfishness, as if we were forgetting what the previous generation learned from history. From the outside, Donald Trump, Russia, and China are testing Europe’s unity, our willingness to stand united for our values, to defend our way of life.

There can only be one answer to that: solidarity. That means opposing nationalism and selfishness domestically while outwardly showing unity and sharing sovereignty. And this is the answer that the citizens of Europe, each one of us, must give now. Alone as Germans, as French people, as Italians, as Poles, we are too weak. Only together we can assert ourselves in the 21st century.

We want the EU to protect our way of life and create prosperity for all. We want Europe to uphold democracy, human rights and global solidarity in the fight for the preservation of natural resources. Now we need to take big, bold steps. Muddling through from crisis to crisis, as we’ve been doing lately, endangers everything we have achieved.

“Every day, billions of dollars change hands, and countless decisions are made, on the basis of our likes and dislikes, our friends and families, our relationships and conversations. Our wishes and fears, our hopes and dreams,” Cook said. “These scraps of data, each one harmless enough on its own, are carefully assembled, synthesized, traded, and sold. Your profile is then run through algorithms that can serve up increasingly extreme content, pounding our harmless preferences into hardened convictions,” Cook said.

Apple and its chief executive have long touted personal privacy, distancing themselves from recent, growing scandals among tech companies — but the comments from Cook are some of the strongest to date. He said the business of selling ads against personal data has become a “data industrial complex,” but stopped short of naming tech giants like Facebook and Google in his criticisms. However, Facebook and Google are the two largest companies that make money selling ads the way Cook described.

“We shouldn’t sugarcoat the consequences. This is surveillance. And these stockpiles of personal data serve only to enrich the companies that collect them,” Cook said. “This should make us very uncomfortable. It should unsettle us.”

Halloween has a very deep spiritual dimension, but most people never think too much about where all of these traditions originated.  We should never be afraid to ask hard questions, and this is a point that I make very strongly in my latest book entitled “Living A Life That Really Matters”.  I never understood the shocking history behind any of our holidays while I was growing up, but I wish that somebody would have told me the truth.

Over the past several weeks, Israel has been enduring an endless barrage of incendiary devices and rockets, and the Israelis appear to be out of patience at this point. On Wednesday night, the Israeli military hit eight different Hamas targets in the Gaza strip. The following comes from Haaretz… “The Israeli military struck eight Hamas targets in three different military compounds in the Gaza Strip late Wednesday night following the firing of a rocket into southern Israel.”

So what should Israel do? Egypt has attempted to be a mediator between Israel and Hamas, but negotiations have completely broken down. And the Hamas charter calls for the complete elimination of the state of Israel, and they have never wavered from that long-term goal. The Israelis clearly don’t want war with Hamas. They just want the violence to stop.

So we shall see what happens this Friday. Unfortunately, I have a feeling that it will be one of the bloodiest protests yet. In the end, Israel is going to have a very difficult choice to make. Either they can choose the status quo and the endless violence that goes with it, or they can choose to invade Gaza. But if they invade Gaza, that could literally spark World War 3.

The “Defense” Department, “Homeland” Security, big pharma, big oil, big education, civil rights groups, blacks, Indians, Jews, the Deep State, government workers, labor unions, Neocons, Populists, fundamentalist Christians, atheists, pro life and pro death advocates, environmentalists, lawyers, homosexuals, women, Millenials, Baby Boomers, blue collar/white collar, illegal aliens… the list goes on and on, but the point is that the conflicting agendas of these disparate groups have been irreconcilable for some time.

The difference today is that we are de facto at war with each other, and whether it is a war of words or of actual combat doesn’t matter at the moment. What matters is that we no longer communicate, and when that happens it is easy to demonize the other side. Violence is never far behind ignorance.

Long ago, we once knew that as American citizens each of us had a great responsibility. We were expected to work hard, play fair, do unto others as we would have them do unto us, and serve our country when called upon to do so. Today, we don’t speak of duty, except in so much as a slogan to promote war, but we certainly do speak of benefits for ourselves and our “group” of entitled peeps. We will fail because of our greed and avarice. The United States of Empire has become quite simply too big, too diverse, and too “exceptional” to survive.

Twenty-five percent of the 769 students, who were an even mix of genders and races and socioeconomic backgrounds, reported 'clinically significant' levels of stress.
