BORIS SPEAKS: ‘Brexit is Dying, White Flags Are Fluttering’
UK - Ex-Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson has absolutely excoriated Theresa May and her Brexit strategy in his resignation letter… “It is more than two years since the British people voted to leave the European Union on an unambiguous and categorical promise that if they did so they would be taking back control of their democracy,” he began.
“They were told that they would be able to manage their own immigration policy, repatriate the sums of UK cash currently spent by the EU, and, above all, that they would be able to pass laws independently and in the interests of the people of this country.
“Brexit should be about opportunity and hope. It should be a chance to do things differently, to be more nimble and dynamic, and to maximise the particular advantages of the UK as an open, outward-looking global economy.
“That dream is dying, suffocated by needless self-doubt,” he blasted. “What is even more disturbing is that this is our opening bid. This is already how we see the end state for the UK – before the other side has made its counter-offer. It is as though we are sending our vanguard into battle with the white flags fluttering above them.”
Brexit Is Dead – Strangled by Theresa May
UK - Brexit is dead – strangled at the weekend by Prime Minister Theresa May and her cabal of Remainer cronies. It was a brilliant coup, masterfully conducted with a sadist’s attention to detail. All the ministers in the Cabinet were hauled up to Chequers, the Prime Minister’s country residence, where their phones were confiscated, as though they were naughty children. Then the stubbornly pro-Brexit ones who were rightly disgusted by the shaming sell-out deal May had cobbled together with her virulently Remainer civil servants were given the same choice Rommel was in 1944: cyanide pill or slow career death.
The cyanide pill option would have involved resigning immediately on principle: but then being ritually humiliated by having their official car confiscated and having to walk to the train station via the mile-long drive, or catch a cab, with a £67,000 pay cut. A letter to each minister, leaked to the press, warned them of this beforehand. Petty, but given how vain ministers are, very effective.
In June 2016, 17.4 million people — more than had ever voted for anything in British history — voted Brexit to free themselves from the clutches of that Remainer establishment. Now the Remainer establishment has responded as only it knows how: by ignoring the democratic will and shoring up its power base by whatever means necessary. This is a betrayal. A grotesque betrayal.
Mass Exodus From The Church
USA - We are witnessing a religious shift that is unprecedented in size and scope in American history. With each passing year, the percentage of Americans that claim no religious affiliation is growing, and this trend is especially pronounced among our young people. If things continue to steadily move in this direction, that is going to have enormous implications for the future of our society. The United States was founded by people that were extremely committed to their faith, and now we are rapidly becoming a nation where people are choosing no religion at all.
We live at a time when there is a mass exodus from Christian churches, and while it is true that some smaller faiths are growing, the reality of the matter is that most of the people that are leaving are remaining unaffiliated. According to PRRI, if you go back to 1991 only 6 percent of all Americans were “unaffiliated”, but today that number has shot up to 25 percent…
The most dramatic change during this time period has been among our young people. If you go all the way back to 1986, just 10 percent of Americans in the 18 to 29-year-old age group were “unaffiliated”. Today, that number has skyrocketed to 39 percent. Americans still have a keen interest in spiritual things, but many of them are now attempting to fill that void in alternative ways. For example, it has been claimed that Wicca (a very popular form of witchcraft) is now the fastest growing faith in America.
Many like to focus on the political changes that are happening in this country, but the truth is that these cataclysmic shifts in our faith numbers are going to have far more to do with determining the future course of this nation. If we ever hope to restore the Constitutional Republic that our founders once established, we must return to the Christian values and principles that this nation was originally founded upon. Any other approach is simply not going to work, and time is running out.
Trump Can't Reverse the Decline of White Christian America
USA - Down the home stretch of the 2016 presidential campaign, one of Donald Trump’s most consistent talking points was a claim that America’s changing demographics and culture had brought the country to a precipice. He repeatedly cast himself as the last chance for Republicans and conservative white Christians to step back from the cliff, to preserve their power and way of life.
In an interview on Pat Robertson’s Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) in early September, Trump put the choice starkly for the channel’s conservative Christian viewers: “If we don’t win this election, you’ll never see another Republican and you’ll have a whole different church structure.” Asked to elaborate, Trump continued, “I think this will be the last election that the Republicans have a chance of winning because you’re going to have people flowing across the border, you’re going to have illegal immigrants coming in and they’re going to be legalized and they’re going to be able to vote, and once that all happens you can forget it.”
...Meanwhile, the major trends transforming the country continue. If anything, evangelicals’ deal with Trump may accelerate the very changes it was designed to arrest, as a growing number of non-white and non-Christian Americans are repulsed by the increasingly nativist, tribal tenor of both conservative white Christianity and conservative white politics.
At the end of the day, white evangelicals’ grand bargain with Trump will be unable to hold back the sheer weight of cultural change, and their descendants will be left with the only real move possible: acceptance.
Nigeria’s Fulani Jihadis Grow Deadlier than Boko Haram
NIGERIA - Muslim terrorists from the Fulani herdsmen group in Nigeria used machetes and firearms to massacre more than 200 people in a predominantly Christian region over a two day period in June, a testament to the group’s growing lethality that has far surpassed Boko Haram’s. Various news outlets identify the Fulani as “herdsmen” competing over resources ravaged by global warming with Christians who have instigated their demise by stealing the Muslim group’s cattle. The estimated number of farmers who have been killed by Fulani terrorists so far this year varies between 1,750 and 6,000, including women and children. The experts and analysts who spoke to Breitbart News agree that the Fulani are jihadis.
Netflix Host Michelle Wolf Leads Pro-Abortion Salute
USA - Netflix talk show host Michelle Wolf led a “salute” to abortions on the latest episode of her half-hour show, just as pro-abortion activists express concern that President Donald Trump’s new Supreme Court pick could help overturn Roe vs Wade. At the end of this week’s edition of The Break with Michelle Wolf, Wolf dressed up in a red, white, and blue leotard and led the audience in pro-abortion chants with the backing of a marching band. “Look, access to abortion is good and important,” Wolf said. “Some people say abortion is ‘killing a baby.’ It’s not. It’s stopping a baby from happening… Women, if you need an abortion, get one. If you want an abortion, get one.” “Women, don’t forget, you have the power to give life and men will try to control that,” Wolf shouted to the audience. “Don’t let them… God bless abortions and God bless America!”
Jesus Would ‘Approve’ of Gay Marriage
USA - Former US President Jimmy Carter said Sunday that Jesus would approve of gay marriage and certain abortions in an interview with HuffPost Live. Speaking of his faith, Mr Carter said in his career as a politician he never ran across “any really serious conflicts between my political obligations and my religious faith.” Asked about gay marriage, he replied that it is “no problem with me. I think everybody should have a right to get married regardless of their sex. Regarding whether he thinks Jesus would approve of gay marriage, Carter replied “I don’t have any verse in Scripture,” but added, “I believe that Jesus would approve of gay marriage. I think Jesus would encourage any love affair if it was honest and sincere and was not damaging to anyone else and I don’t see that gay marriage damages anyone else,” he said.
May: Letters calling for NO CONFIDENCE vote pile up
UK - A Leadership challenge against Theresa May appears imminent following her Brexit manifesto, it has been revealed, with letters calling for a no-confidence vote in the Prime Minister piling up. Letters are being lodged with Graham Brady, Chairman of the influential 1922 Committee, ahead of a Tory Party showdown on Monday. The fallout comes amid mounting fury from disgruntled Conservative backbenchers following publication of Mrs May’s 12-point Brexit manifesto.
Leave MPs are furious at what they see as Mrs May’s caving in to demands from the Remain wing of the party to steer Britain towards a soft Brexit. If 48 letters are received by Mr Brady, Mrs May would be forced to stand down and fight a leadership contest. However, Mrs May is said to be confident of facing down rebels plotting to oust her. One aide told the Sunday Mirror: "Once it’s done, it’s done."
It is reported that Eurosceptics are circulating a draft statement urging Mrs May to quit. During Friday's summit, Mrs May restored cabinet collective responsibility as she bolstered her grip on rebellious Eurosceptics in her Cabinet. Ministers speaking out against her ‘soft-Brexit strategy’ now face the sack.
Mrs May has been bracing herself for a backlash following her latest Brexit fudge. The Prime Minister is set to address all 316 Tory MPs on Monday, but rebels would need 48 MPs to try launch a challenge.
The Man They Call ‘Germany’s Trump’
GERMANY - Markus Söder, 51, Bavaria’s noisy new premier, got out of his car, complimented a woman in a dirndl [traditional Bavarian feminine dress], patted a couple of police horses, threw some sound bites about border security at the cameras, then strode into the beer tent to address the people of Baierbrunn, a small village near Munich. “If Germany is strong, it’s because Bavaria is strong,” Mr Söder intoned from the stage in his Frankish lilt, to approving cheers. “And because we’re strong,” he roared over more cheers, “we take the liberty to have an opinion!”
Few outside of Bavaria know Mr Söder (pronounced Zoo-der). Lately, attention has focused on Horst Seehofer, another Bavarian and the German interior minister whose threat to resign over a border issue created a political crisis this week.
But Mr Söder as much as anyone is the reason Chancellor Angela Merkel, who once staked her legacy on welcoming hundreds of thousands of migrants to Germany, finally capitulated and agreed to turn back migrants already registered elsewhere in Europe at the Bavarian border with Austria — something Mr Söder has been demanding for months.
The “opinion” Mr Söder has voiced on behalf of Bavaria is that he wants to put a stop to what he calls “asylum tourism” and TO “DEFEND” BAVARIAN AND CHRISTIAN VALUES. Last month he ordered Christian crosses to be hung in all state government buildings in Bavaria. This month he launched a Bavarian border force even though migrant numbers are sharply down.
General election must be held if Tory plotters oust Theresa May
UK - A majority of the British public want a general election if Tory plotters oust Theresa May and replace her with one of her rivals, a poll has revealed. More than half of those questioned in the exclusive BMG survey for The Independent said the Conservatives could not switch leaders without returning to the country.
The research sends a strong message to would-be challengers like Boris Johnson, Jeremy Hunt, Sajid Javid and Michael Gove that the public may not stand for having a new prime minister chosen for them by Tory party members. The poll also showed the two main parties tied in terms of voting intention, making any election result unpredictable, risking the loss of marginal seats and the prospect of a Jeremy Corbyn government.
It comes over her plans to move the UK to a customs arrangement that would keep Britain more closely aligned to the customs union and single market. But despite the progress, most Tory insiders still believe the prime minister’s days are numbered with many expecting moves against her after Brexit day, at the end of March 2019.
Catholic Bishop: Europe Migrant Crisis ‘Orchestrated’
EUROPE - The Catholic church is being used as a pawn in a well-orchestrated plan to radically alter the Christian identity of European nations through mass migration, said Bishop Athanasius Schneider in a bombshell interview last week. Schneider, who serves as auxiliary bishop of Astana, Kazakhstan, told the Italian daily Il Giornale that the current migrant crisis “represents a plan orchestrated and prepared for a long time by international powers to radically alter the Christian and national identity of the peoples of Europe.” The bishop said he would applaud the government of any European nation that “tries to accentuate its own sovereignty and its historical, cultural, and Christian identity in the face of the totalitarianism of a sort of new Soviet Union, which today is called the European Union and has an unmistakably Masonic ideology.”
Hamas increases training ahead of possible war with Israel
MIDDLE EAST - Hamas has increased its training in preparation for a possible conflict with Israel, defense officials warned on Sunday. According to a report by Israeli public broadcaster Kan, Hamas has upped training of its forces ahead of a possible conflict with Israel, which recently deployed Iron Dome batteries throughout southern Israel.
This School Banned Cell Phones
FRANCE - It has been four years since this French school banned the use of cell phones – and while some people might have expected negative backlash, the students and teachers are quite happy with the regulation. According to The Guardian, the 290 teenager pupils at La Gautrais Middle School in Plouasne have displayed “more social interaction between children, more empathy and a readiness to learn at the start of lessons”.
Students are talking and playing more at recess; the youngsters are active and engaged on school field trips, rather than staring at screens; and they say that they are closer with their friends as a result of conversing more with each other.
“When I’m with my friends I prefer a proper conversation,” one of the kids told the news outlet. “If you’re all standing around with phones, you talk about what’s on the screen rather than really listening to each other.”
While the staff of the school had initially expressed anxiety over enforcing the ban, teachers and administrators say it’s been relatively easy. There are only about 10 cell phones that are confiscated per year. Another French school that implemented a cell phone ban has actually seen a decrease in cell phone confiscations.
All books will need trigger warnings to protect students from ugly truths
UK - Books will soon need "trigger warnings" because some students do not like being faced with ugly truths, according to author Julian Barnes. The Man Booker Prize winner made the suggestion after hearing that some undergraduates had taken to criticising Gustave Flaubert’s Madame Bovary on the basis of the protagonist’s behaviour.
Over the last two years, a growing number of UK universities have introduced "trigger warnings" to give students advance notice of potentially distressing material and "safe spaces" in which certain behaviours or language are prohibited. Both have been criticised by free speech advocates. Speaking at a celebration of the Booker’s half-century on Sunday, Barnes told an auditorium at the Royal Festival Hall: "I sometimes get exercised by our stories being put up for examination on non-literary terms, and trigger warnings and all that stuff.”
He gave the example of US students who had criticised Flaubert’s masterpiece, who had said ‘I didn't like it because Madame Bovary is a bad mother". The 72-year-old said: “I don't know where to begin to unpick that. As for students asking to hear in advance the bad things that happen in Titus Andronicus,” he said, to laughter, “we might as well have a trigger warning on all great works of literature.”
Southern California Heat Wave Breaks Records
USA - The Latest on Southern California’s heat wave - Temperature records are beginning to fall as a heat wave broils Southern California. The National Weather Service says downtown Los Angeles broke the July 6 record when it hit 95 degrees (35 Celsius) at 10:15 am Friday, besting the old record of 94 (34.4 Celsius) set in 1992. The mercury continues to rise and is flirting with the century mark. Downtown is forecast to top out at 106. Other locations around Southern California reached triple digits at midmorning, and several other records have been broken.
